My guided painting classes are designed to feel like a calm, creative pause in the middle of a busy world; a space where anyone can learn, explore, and walk away surprised by what they create. Each session blends solid technique with therapeutic, grounding approaches, so the experience becomes as relaxing as it is inspiring. You don’t need any prior art background. You just need to show up willing to trust the process and yourself. I’ll guide you through the rest.
What We’ve Been Painting
Recent classes have taken inspiration from local history and the quiet beauty tucked into everyday landscapes.
One session focused on the old Rucker barn.
The Rucker Barn was built in the mid 1920s, and has been passed down through four generation of Ruckers. It was built of oak and pine planks cut from trees on the property, and those planks have hardened into nearly impenetrable material. It might look like its falling down, but it will likely stand until the hands of time require something else of the land there.
Another class focused on the Historic Crabapple Silos. If you’re familiar with the Milton/Crabapple area, you’ve likely driven by these silos. Once owned and operated by Jake Hughes to hold the grain he grew for his cattle, these landmarks have been turned into a park for the people of the area.
This class was near the end of October, so I took the silos and dropped them into a winter scene to fit the Christmas decor going up soon. Students learned perspective, composition, and color layering while also finding their own variations and personal touches.
The wonderful thing about these classes is how the artwork becomes a reflection of each painter. Even when we begin with the same reference, every piece ends up unique—some bold, some soft, some playful, some serene. That’s the joy of guided painting: you learn real skills while discovering your own creative voice.
